Cooperation

Cooperation is a Mental Models that defines the importance of Cooperation in the survival of groups. Competition is vital within a group to increase each individual’s fitness, but a group that does not cooperate will be surpassed by one that does cooperate. An excellent example of this is the career of Michael Jordan. He was hypercompetitive within and outside the team. But at some point, he realised that if he cooperated with his teammates, they would win more. It seems a typical evolution of individual performance; first, you develop yourself, then you develop others. There was a point for Michael in which helping others get better would have a more significant impact than improving himself. There are many areas in which Cooperation is beneficial: Economics: two areas will be better off cooperating and specialising in what they do best than in trying to do everything themselves. The natural world: animal colonies survive because of the high degree of Cooperation between their individuals, simbyosis is another example of Cooperation that results in two species benefiting from each other.
