The Bike Shed Effect
The Bike Shed Effect, also known as the The Law of Triviality is a Mental Models that defines the tendency of people to focus on trivial issues or aspects of a problem and ignore the most complex ones, which may be more important. It can happen as a result of the Tendency to Minimise Energy Output, or a distraction mechanism to avoid change.
I believe that the ability to recognise a group of people who are bikeshedding and redirect them to the essential issues at hand is vital to have a high-performing team.
